Klein Graniet No 42 Mourvèdre 2021

R2 400,00

“The answer to life and everything else is – 42” (The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy). So to all those times you have wondered, what wine will I drink tonight – the answer is 42! This 100% Mourvèdre grown on the estate in deep sandy soil offers a bouquet of red fruit, soft spice and silky tannins.

The grapes are hand harvested, destalked and “cold soaked” for 72 hours before inoculation with a commercial selected yeast. Fermentation is done at much cooler temperatures than normal (22ºC) with short pump overs on the skins in the morning and evening only, trying to preserve the natural fruit flavours and keep tannin extraction to a minimum. MLF was done in-tank after alcoholic fermentation and aged in a selection of 500L barrels for minimum wood flavour in the wine. No finings done prior to bottling.

Tasting:

Bright light red in colour. The nose is vibrant with fruit (strawberry, blueberry and red cherries) with ripe plum and notes of tomato leaf bringing a touch of much-needed herbaceous flavour.

The pallet is fresh and elegant with a soft tannin structure. Plums and peaches are very prominent on the mid-pallet with hints of spice (All Spice and Cloves). An easy-to-drink yet structured body with a long, drawn-out finish. Serve slightly chilled at 14ºC- 15ºC for maximum enjoyment.
